Pretty Hands & Sweet Feet nail art book

Hi all!

Once upon a time I won the Pretty Hands & Sweet Feet nail art book giveaway over at Chalkboard Nails. Delivery was delayed a bit and it arrived nearly 6 weeks ago. I had planned to write this post over a month ago, and obviously I didn't. I did two mani's inspired by designs in the book, so let's start with the first one.

Polishes:
  • Barry M - Gelly - GNP28 Coconut
  • KIKO - 331 Violet
  • Mollon Pro - 28 So In Lilac
  • Catrice - 42 Nickel Minaj
  • Lucky 13 Lacquer - Elemental Ward

I used these polishes to create the design called Watercolor Dots by Chalkboard Nails from the book.

Base: 2 coats of each colour. I top coated my coconut covered nails, added dots of the other polishes and tried to create watercolour by adding acetone. It sort of worked. Then silvery dots and more top coat.

I've tried this technique before, but I'm just not that good at it, I keep creating brush strokes when playing with the acetone.

Strange enough, my cinderella hand looked better... no clue how that happened.

I did love wearing that look, the imperfections are not that visible and it still looks interesting on the nail.

Onto the second look I recreated, a design called Retro Scales by Nailed It.

Polishes:
  • Sinful Colors - 101 Snow Me White
  • Lucky 13 Lacquer - Dark Matter
  • El Corazon - Matte Effect - 124
  • OPI - NLF79 - Embrace the Gray
  • OPI - NLF76 - Dark Side of the Mood
  • OPI - NLF75 - Romantically Involved
  • Lucky 13 Lacquer - Elemental Ward

Base: 2 coats of Snow Me White. With a striping brush I added the pattern first. Next I filled in the different compartments randomly. I re-did the outlines again and finished with top coat.

I loved wearing these, and I did both hands this way.

Do you have any nail art books? If so, which one?

40 Great Nail Art Ideas - 3 Shades of Green

Hi all!

Another week with a double prompt. The general prompt is all about 3 shades of green and my personal one is a reciprocal gradient. My first one!

Polishes:
  • Catrice - 11 Miss Piggy's BF
  • Catrice - 10 I'm Not A Greenager
  • Essence - 160 deap sea, baby
  • Lucky 13 Lacquer - Elemental Ward
  • Kaleidoscope by El Corazón - Cuticle Defender

Base: one coat of Miss Piggy's BF. I protected the skin around my nail with Cuticle Defender (liquid latex type product) and started sponging the gradient. I added a coat of Elemental Ward and let it dry. Then I added some silver zigzag tape (item 23383) by Born Pretty Store and sponged the gradient only in the center in the other direction. Removed tape, more Elemental Ward and clean up and done.

I really liked the effect, but doing double gradients is a lot of work timewise.

The Nail Challenge Collaborative presents: Punk & Rock - Red Plaid

Hi all!

My second mani is rather simple, but I still love it. If you google punk fashion you get a lot of black and red plaid. Seeing as I ordered  the Plaids & Florals collection from Hēhē and it just arrived on my doorstep, I had to use it... obviously.

Polishes:
  • OPI - NLR53 An Affair in Red Square
  • Lucky 13 Lacquer - The Final Frontier
  • Essence - Stampy polish black
  • Lucky 13 Lacquer - Elemental Ward

And I used Hēhē 075 for my plaid stamping.

Base: either 2 coats of An Affair in Red Square or The Final Frontier. I stamped the plaid pattern using my Essence black stamping polish which really needs replacing. The bottle is about 3/4 empty now, so getting enough polish on my brush is getting difficult. Ended with Elemental Ward.

This red is so luscious... also the image appears warped because I pressed instead of rolled with my stamper. Rolling works better with these lines.

I have used these plates in another mani (the one I'm wearing right now) and I can safely say these stamping plates from Hēhē are really amazing. They're the same size as Bundle Monster round plates for reference. You can buy single plates or an entire collection, just be sure to only buy through the official Hēhē website as there are a lot of fakes out there. And they're not that expensive... so why buy fake?

Have you been tempted to buy any Hēhē stamping plates? Let me know!

40 Great Nail Art Ideas - Food

Hi all!

Today's food mani was inspired with this image here designed by Amy Walters (it is part of her Summer Fruits and Berries). I think the colour combination is quite striking and I think my base colour is rather close to the original image. If they're apples or green plums I don't know, it doesn't mattery really. It feels quite summery, even though it's only March.

Polishes:
  • Sinful Colors - 1103 Island Coral
  • Sinful Colors - 101 Snow Me White
  • OPI - NL N34 You Are So Outta Lime!
  • Lucky 13 Lacquer - Dark Matter
  • Lucky 13 Lacquer - Elemental Ward

Base: 2 coats of Island Coral. With a nail art brush I added rough circles in Snow Me White first. Next I added the green next, leaving some white edges visible. With a super thin brush (cut down to a few hairs) I added the black details. I topcoated with Elemental Ward as always.

Does this make you wish for warmer weather as well?

Love, Brethil

The Nail Challenge Collaborative presents: Punk & Rock - Black studded

Hi all!

This month's theme is Punk & Rock. Keeping it simple, I have something with black and studs.

Polishes:
  • Lucky 13 Lacquer - Dark Matter
  • Lucky 13 Lacquer - Elemental Ward
  • Mundo de Unas - 18 Silver
And I also used Born Pretty Store BP-L012 stamping plate.

Base: 1 coat of Dark Matter. I stamped with the silver MdU stamping polish, topped with Elemental Ward. The studs were stuck on with some top coat underneath and a coat on top.

It's been a while since I last wore studs... I have no clue why... must wear them more often.

40 Great Nail Art Ideas - Pastels

Hi all!

This week is all about pastels. One of the pastels I recently bought is Aliquid Lacquer's Corpse de Ballet. I just love the little specks and flakies. I had to combine it with my pattern: Pattern on Pattern. So I did some double/triple stamping.

Polishes:
  • Aliquid Lacquer - Corpse de Ballet
  • Mundo de Uñas - 18 Silver
  • Mundo de Uñas - 33 Light Gray
  • Mundo de Uñas - 34 Dark Gray
  • Lucky 13 Lacquer - Elemental Ward

And I used two stamping plates, Bundle Monster's BM-606 and MoYou London's Fairytale 02.

Base: 2 coats of Corpse de Ballet. Then I stamped with MdU Light Gray and the MoYou plate. Then I stamped with the other polishes and the BM plate. Ended with Elemental Ward.

Unfortunately you can't see much of the base beneath all that stamping, but it's lovely.

Love, Brethil
