FingerFood's Theme Buffet - Abstract

Hi all!

This week's theme is Abstract. I let myself be inspired by a Dutch abstract painter, Theo van Doesburg. He's the founder of art movement and magazine De Stijl (The Style) that existed between 1917 and 1931. Piet Mondriaan was also one of the contributors (and became more well-known worldwide). I've seen Mondriaan inspired nails before and I didn't want to copy anyone, so I deliberately didn't pick one of his paintings. You can see my inspiration painting here. It's called Composition VII (The Three Graces). I am hoping the image I linked is the correct orientation of the painting, because I found 3 different orientations of this image while searching through Google.

Polishes I used, from left to right:
  • W7 - 28 Black
  • Catrice - 400 Blue Cara Ciao
  • Barry M - Nail Art Pen White
  • Mundo de Uñas - 12 Cream
  • Mundo de Uñas - 32 Reddish
  • HEMA - Top Coat Matt

I started with a base of W7's Black (1-2 coats, depending on nail and my application skill). I applied HK Girl top coat to get it to harden quicker for the next step. I used my nail art pen to draw the squares and rectangles. I started with my index fingernail, but did not like the spacing, hence why my other nails have bigger rectangles and more space. I used a small nail art brush to apply the polishes over the white, and leaving some white. When it dried I first applied my HK Girl top coat (to seal it in and avoid bleeding) before adding the matte top coat.

And I seem to have bumped my nail on something... no clue how it happened.

I do like this mani, even if my squares and rectangles are not perfect and the painting is so much better. Have you ever done art inspired nails?

    1. Yay! You recognised it! One of my friends (teaches art in high school) failed, she didn't guess right *chuckles*

    1. The bump is more than likely because i bumped into something... it wouldn't be the first time, and probably not the last either ;).

  4. Love this! The colours work so well together! I'd heard of van Doesburg because of Piet Mondrian so I got it too (doing a little smug dance) :)
