Nail Art Ideas Linkup - September - Sapphire

Hi all!

N.A.I.L. is back! For more info, visit the lovely hosts: Brijits Digits, Craftynail, Eeeek Nail Polish! and Nail That Accent!

As you all know, sapphire is a gorgeous blue gem. But it also reminds me of a gorgeous blue dragon named Saphira. I'm talking about Saphira from Christopher Paolini's Inheritance Cycle. Or from the motion picture Eragon if you have seen it (trust me, the books are much better and Hollywood has a tendency not to finish a series if part one doesn't do that well, which is annoying!). I love the cover art for the books, who wouldn't love them, they're all dragons! The first book Eragon features Saphira herself and I am featuring her on my nails. More specifically, her eye.

What I used:
  • L.A. Girl - 3D Effects - GNL306 Brilliant Blue
  • NYC - 325 Raindrop
  • W7 - 28 Black
  • Sinful Colors - 101 Snow Me White

Because I work with polishes and did not want to mess up on my nails, I made a decal of Saphira's eye. It looks lovely... but of course I managed to mess it up... I stuck it on backwards, well the first part anyway. So I had to add more detailing onto my nail after adding the decal.

My base is 2 coats of Brilliant Blue. I stuck my decal on my middle finger nail first, cut it out with nail scissors along the edges and then used the rest of the decal for the adjoining nails. I freehanded some scales around the decal and on my little finger. Top coated as always with HK Girl top coat.

The eye looks good, even after fixing my mistake. I made another on my thumb nail... spelling Safira instead of Saphira, but you get the idea... Also... cat hair. It snuck in there afterwards, I swear!

I'm super happy with these! What's not to love about having a (piece of) dragon on your nails?

More sapphires below!

  1. Wow! Love this so much! I read Eragon when I was a lot younger (never seen the film) and this has definitely convinced me to go back, re-read and finish the series! Beautiful :)

    1. Thanks! I was afraid I'd mess it up if I painted directly on my nail, so I'm glad I made a decal, and it worked out well!
